Recorded on every continent, Audouliceras originated in the Jurassic period, but was most proliic during the Creaceous, finally disappearing in the Paleocene period. This long lifespan is surprising due to the shade of Audouliceras’ shell.

The elongated shell that Audouliceras is known for actually housed the ammonite’s body at the lower portion of the shell. This creates a large amount of resistance during swimming. This has led many researchers to believe that it fed by drifting through clouds of plankton. or slowly crawling along the seabed feasting on sessile or slow moving creatures such as clams.
